biggest lesson in seed growing this year: perennials take their time. I'll be experimenting with sowing in the fall this year, it's supposed to better mimics their natural growing.
calendula. heart eyes.
the marigolds cannot be tamed. and i would never try. okay, i lied. the rabbits tamed the one I put in a low pot. supposedly they’re rabbit resistant. that’s also a lie.
seed season is upon us.
my child's (and my) newest fascination: runner beans. Every time we open the pods, we are delighted with the unexpected bright pink beans. The dry pods have moodier but no less beautiful beans.
signs of an approaching Fall.
I didn't have the heart to widen the frame to include the writhing wrapped-up honey bee trapped in the web to the right of this super chill lady.
may I introduce Ouiser and Clairee?
I just finished reading (listening to) The Goldfinch. 32 hours of despair. I'm sure the main character would see these petals and see death/decay/depression. I see a life well spent, rest after hard work, the cycle ending to make way for a new one. I suppose I didn't experience the same trauma as the story, but neither do most people. I wholeheartedly disagree with the conclusive message that life is a shit storm you wade through trying to find the magic. For me, it is magic if you decide to have the perspective to allow it.
she just popped out of nowhere. reminding me that if I choose to look, I can see all the good shit happening.
second time posting this beaut. i’m kvelling! she will for sure be featured in next year’s patio garden theme, which will be revealed at a later date. hold on to your butts, it’s a good one!
Treasures!
The cut flower and tea bed, finally adorned in all her brick. Very demure, very British. And she's starting to fill in very nicely! I have been growing chamomile from seed that I'll plant in the fall. That is when we'll learn just how much rabbits like chamomile. Fingers crossed for 'not big fans.'
I'll always want to hug a bumble bee.
It always feels like I'm doing things right in the garden when a ladybug makes an appearance. I left the aphids for you boo! Eat well!
Finally. A deep purple strawflower not cut down by rabbits. I could just drink from that wine colored bowl.
There always seems to be a corner of the garden that I didn't expect much out of that inevitably becomes my favorite spot. This one includes cascading snapdragons and jolly pink lollipops. This would be where there fairies party.
Scabiosa 'starflower.' In bloom (top) and the post-bloom seed head. Equally impressive in my book.
Celosia ‘Flamingo Feather’ again. Pinker this time. These were the last of the three year old seed packet that didn’t amount to anything until this year. Glory glory! I’ll be growing these yearly.
